March area news

What a difference a year makes!
This time last year we were wondering if we were ever going
to get our cars out from under a blanket of snow on top of
our garages. This year the sun has been shining and we
have taken advantage of it. For the meeting on Sunday 24th
February at the Pennington Inn, Ravenglass there were
three classics in the cars park. Phil and Sue C, Stag. Rod
and Joan, Vitesse and Anne and I with our Spitfire with the
roof down. In the twenty years that I have owned the car I
can never remember turning up to a February meeting with
the roof down. A few years ago when we held the Fell Run
Challenge many cars had their roofs down but that was at
the end of March. Is it going to last? Let’s hope so.
The Cumbria on Tour trip to the Outer Hebrides in
September is now all finalized. Boats and Hotels booked.
We will be away for seven nights, starting at Oban and travelling
the islands of Barra, Eriskay, South Uist, Benbecula,
North Uist, Berneray, Harris and Lewis, with the final destination
being Ullapool. 5 cars and ten people are doing the
trip. Anne and I, Ray and Gill, Rod and Joan, Phil and Sue
C, Nigel and Christine. Anne and I met and married on
Benbecula when I was in the army and Anne was living there.
Anne’s father was in charge of building the new rocket range,
which is now moth balled as it is very rarely used by the numbers
when we were there. After 5 years living on Benbecula
we know the area and are more than happy to share our
experiences with others. Booking accommodation proved to
be quite a challenge as when we started we were told that
most hotels were full. Apparently with foreigners’, all of them
have been waiting for the School holidays to finish before
travelling.
Forth Coming events: Drive It Day. Sunday 28th April.
This year it is a week later than it normally is, due to Easter
being the week that we normally have it. Usual venue
Dalemain House 11am.
This year’s events calendar has been printed. If anyone
wants one that was not at the February meeting please let
me know and I will email one to you.
Safe motoring
